Verna Mae Rutherford

Verna Mae Rutherford (nee Winter), age 94, of Toledo, entered into her eternal home on August 31, 2021. She had been living with and receiving care from her daughter Barbara and hospice. Verna was born on January 24th, 1927, in Findlay, Ohio. She was the daughter of Avery Perry and Letha Fern (Cummins) Winter, beloved mother of Sharon A. (Donald) Krajicek, Barbara A. Boyle, Janis D. (Paul) Mack, and Terri S. Davis (Robert Beach), grandmother of Michelle L. Ruch, Ryan C. Mack, Shane M. (Lindsey Monroe) Mack, Kevin R. (Ashley Nye) Krajicek, Corey J. (Nicole) Mack, Jason A. (Viridiana Mercado) Mack, Kelly R. Krajicek, great-grandmother of Mikah, Marisa, Abigail, Mateo, Kasey, Caden, Cameron, Sadie, and Khloe. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marilyn Winter, nieces Nancy (Rod) Gruen, Robin (Ray) Jasper, and nephews Tom Clayton, Rick (Peggy) Winter, Ron (Joan) Winter, and Terry (Sally) O’Connell. She will also be missed by her grand dog/guardian Brutus.
Before her short stay with her daughter, she had always lived independently. She was always determined to do things on her own and her way. Verna was a very strong, loving person. She raised four daughters and they are forever grateful for the lessons learned. Her legacy will live on in them and her grand and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Rutherford, parents Avery and Letha Winter, brothers Edwin, Roland, Wilbur, Robert, and sister Mary Jane Sampson, nieces Connie Filipovich and Peggy Baker, and nephew Jim Clayton.
Per her wishes she will be laid to rest at Willow Cemetery with a private graveside service on Tuesday, September 7th. The Urbanski Funeral Home 5055 Secor Rd Toledo, Ohio.
