Nicholas Wayne Hetzer was born on September 3, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Kingston Care Center of Sylvania at the age of 76.
Nick attended St. Hedwig School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1966. He also graduated from The University of Toledo, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and The University of Toledo College of Law. Nick practiced law in the Toledo area for the majority of his life. He was a reservist in The United States Marine Corp and was involved with many community, charity and service groups. His passion ran deep for the love of outdoors. He was a longstanding member at both Rockwell Springs Trout Club, since 1988, and The North Branch Boys. Fly-fishing, bird hunting with his beloved dogs, and golfing were just a few of his treasured pastimes. And, as many people will remember, Nick was an excellent cook!
Nick is survived by his stepdaughter, Emily (Ken) Grohnke and her family; sister, Anita Knox; nieces, Jen Shanahan and Laura Knox; cousins, Carol Fairchild, Patrick Dankoski, Dennis Dankoski and their families; as well as many loved and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Meder; and stepfather, Homer Meder.
Urbanski Funeral Home assisted with final arrangements. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Nick’s life will be announced and held at a future date.
A special thanks to Kingston Care Center of Sylvania for the dedicated compassionate care and kindness shared with Nick, his friends and his family.
Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
