Michael Joseph Gill, age 58, passed away on August 1, 2021, in his Toledo, Ohio home. Born on October 13, 1962, to Michael Gill and Patricia Gill, Mike spent the majority of his childhood in the neighborhoods of West Toledo. Graduating from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1981, he garnered recognition as a stand-out football player on the Knights’ first state playoff team. Mike continued his football career at Adrian College, receiving the distinguished honor of the first freshman to start on the Bulldog’s offensive line. In 1985, he graduated with a degree in Marketing. Mike was a car salesman at Charlie’s Dodge until he went back to school at Lourdes University to become a teacher.
An avid sports fan and devoted father, Mike was always a dedicated teacher at-heart. He spent several years coaching football at St. Francis de Sales High School, combining both his love of sports and youth mentoring. Mike would eventually teach at Gateway and OLPH, prior to holding a teaching position at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Marlow Heights, Maryland. In 2015, Mike returned to Toledo to teach at Gesu. Along the way, Mike never stopped tutoring children in need of extra attention.
Mike is preceded in death by parents Michael and Patricia Gill, and Aunt Mary Jane Gill. He is survived by his three children, Jack, Drew, and Beau, sister Kathy (Brad) Prater, brothers Jeff (Barb) Gill and Jim (Leslie) Gill, best friend Marie and numerous nieces and nephews.
