Kenneth Ray Russell

May 14, 1956 — October 13, 2024

Petersburg

Kenneth Ray Russell, of Petersburg, Michigan passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, with family by his side. Born to Milton Ray and Della Marie (Blevins) Russell on May 14, 1956, in Rockford, Illinois, Ken married the love of his life, Phyllis (Kennedy) on December 24, 1974. He then joined the US Marine Corps May 3, 1976, serving honorably until his discharge on May 2, 1980. An avid hunter, Ken turned his love of hunting into a business in 1999 and was the owner/operator of Doc’s Pest Control out of Petersburg, Michigan. While owning his own business he also worked with McNaughton-McKay driving trucks and at Cabela’s in Dundee, Michigan. Always on hand to join a hunt with family or friends, Ken would regale everyone with exciting and fun stories about the buck that he bagged while hunting with his son, Ken D and nephew, Ron Lee or that turkey with the huge beard that got away. He was always there with a smile, a helping hand, and treat. He was so very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with all of them whenever and wherever he could. His family was the center of his life and there was never a shortage of celebrations of any kind. Whether it be Thanksgiving dinner or a cookout just for fun, Ken would be ready to make a full turkey dinner or hamburgers on the grill followed by one of his favorite past times, a dip in the pool! A true light in this world, he brightened the lives of everyone that crossed his path and made their days that much better just by knowing him. Ken was a member of the Restored Church of God from 2015 until his death. He grew in grace and knowledge and loved discussing the bible. Ken was thankful for all the help his sister-in-law’s Brenda Norts and Donna Russell provided. He loved watching them feed his chickens and chasing the beagle in the dawn so he wouldn’t kill the chickens. While he appreciated his clean house his favorite comments to Donna and Brenda was “You can’t talk to me like that, I’m not married to you.” Ken was a jokester and loved “a good sale” especially at garage sales. Ken was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Marie; grandson, Ethan Hull; and niece, Laura Marie Ball. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Phyllis Russell of Petersburg, Michigan; daughter, Rachel Hull of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and son, Kenneth Dwane (Tania) Russell of Eagle Pass, Texas; brothers, Milton (Jackie) Russell; Richard Russell; Ronald (Donna) Russell; Jeff (Gretchen) Russell; and sister Rita (Steve) Nevers; grandchildren, Isabel and Otis Hull; Valerie, Caroline and Allison Russell; and several more nieces and nephews that love him very much.
