Harriet J. Matuszak, age 83, passed away July 25, 2020 in Columbus Colony Elderly Care Center in Westerville Ohio. Harriet was born April 6, 1937 in Huntington, West Virginia to Kenneth and Susan (Straley) McKnown. After high school she moved to the Dayton area where she lived for many years on Olive Tree Drive in Trotwood, Ohio, until her husband Thomas Matuszak passed away in August of 2015. Harriet was a remarkable woman, who was also deaf. Anyone who knew her, knew her as a strong, fiery and courageous woman. She was a prolific lip reader and graduated from the Huntington public high school. She danced the ballet by feeling the vibration of the music on the stage. She didn’t learn sign language until she met Harold Davis who was also deaf. She worked for many years at Reynolds and Reynolds as a key puncher and later at the Kroger grocery store office on Salem Avenue in Trotwood, Ohio until retiring. Harriet loved dogs and ran a dog grooming business out of her Trotwood home.
Surviving are her children Harold (Leann) Davis, Johnny (Terri) Davis, Carolina Davis and Lizabeth (Eric) Mott; stepchildren, Traci Matuszak and Thomas (Heather) Matuszak. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
