Shirley Ann Lewis

After 86 years, Shirley Ann Lewis was called home on April 12, 2022, just as the sun started to rise. Shirley was born on June 5, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio to William M. Leach and Helen J. Marshall Leach. She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. Leach & Helen J. Marshall Leach; her husband, Wayne E. Lewis; Son, Wayne J. Lewis; brothers James & Thomas Leach; sisters Mary Lou Greenberg, Phyllis Urie, and Joann Lykins. She is survived by son William & (Karin) Lewis of Toledo, OH; daughter Dawn Lewis of Toledo, OH; son Thomas Lewis of Toledo, OH; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
To Shirley, “family” is a word that was not designated by blood, but by love. Once Shirley held you in her heart, you were family forever. Before her husband Wayne passed in 2008, they discussed spending as much time as possible with family, and Shirley spent the last 14 years doing just that. Anyone who knew Shirley knew how lucky she felt to have her family and many beautiful grandchildren.
As a mother of 4, you could always find Shirley in her car running errands or in the kitchen cooking up a family favorite. She was an avid reader of romance novels, which we would jokingly refer to as her ‘smut.’ She was also the world’s greatest non-singing vocalist, with her ability to reach decibel levels that rival the space rockets during takeoff. Even after all these years, friends from the old neighborhood still comment on her ability to be heard blocks away when calling us in for dinner each night. Now remember what I said about friends and holding that special place in her heart. Well that also meant, as a member of her family, if you were in doing something you shouldn’t be doing, she had no problem unleashing the Wrath-of-Shirley. Today, those who survived one of her verbal lashings talk about it as a badge of honor. They couldn’t tell you what she said, they just recall how loud and scary it was.
If I had sum-up Shirley in a couple of words, they would be dedicated and passionate. She was dedicated to all her friends and family and wouldn’t hesitate for a second to help anyone out in any way she could. If you ever had the pleasure of walking into Shirley’s house in the month of December, you would have a new appreciation for the word passionate. While most people simply decorate a tree and throw up a couple stockings, Shirley’s house was nothing short of a winter wonderland.
Shortly before her passing, Shirley began to see her husband Wayne checking in on her and smiling. Throughout the week, she would mention a different name and go into detail about how that person touched her life and she would end those conversations with, “Please let them know how much I loved them!” It was obvious that Shirley was at peace with her life and was ready for the next chapter, but before she left, Shirley just wanted, for one last time, to tell everyone she loves you!
The family will be receiving family and friends on Wednesday April 20, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski Funeral Home A Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd. Toledo, Ohio where funeral services will at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday April 21, 2022. Burial will be at a later date.

The family will be receiving family and friends on Wednesday April 20, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski Funeral Home A Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd. Toledo, Ohio where funeral services will at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday April 21, 2022. Burial will be at a later date.
