Margaret "Peggy" Rabideau
November/24/1930 - January/22/2021

Margaret Catherine Rabideau, Aged 91, died peacefully at the home of her daughter in Sylvania Ohio on January 22, 2022. She is preceded by her beloved husband of 54 years, Gerald T. Rabideau. (d. 2009), and survived by her six children Mary Pagels, Margaret (Jon) Diehl, Michelle (Alf) Partridge, Gregory (Robin) Rabideau, Marsha Drees, and Grant (Susan) Rabideau, as well as her grandchildren Eric and Ryan Pagels, Abby and Ben Diehl, Clayton, Isabelle and Bezuayehu Rabideau, Justin and Joel Drees, and her eight great-grandchildren Andon, and Logan Clark, Ella, Natalie, Finley and Hudson Pagels, and Audrey and Wyatt King.
Born in Berwyn, Illinois on November 24, 1930, Peggy, as she was affectionately known, moved to Toledo as a small child and grew up in the home of her parents Nicholas and Mary Agnes Oberle. She attended grammar school at St. Vincent de Paul and Rosary Cathedral School, high school at the St. Ursula Academy and received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Toledo.
While at the University of Toledo she became a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and remained best friends with her pledge class for the remaining 70 plus years of her life. She also maintained a lifelong love of learning and would return to UT for a Masters of Education and earned a Graduate degree as an Education Specialist. She was a proud member of Phi Delta Kappa and was also a UT Golden Alum.
Peggy had an interesting and varied career. She started as Assistant Director of Public Relations to University President Jesse Long. She wrote stories for the Toledo Blade, which included a retelling of her family’s journey through the Great Lakes on a prototype of a pontoon boat. After taking time to raise a family, she re-emerged as an Educator and Librarian. Her thirty years in education included teaching Journalism at Start High School. She had also been the Library/Media Specialist at Start, Bowsher, Rogers, Woodward and Macomber High Schools. The summit of her career was as Director of Library and Media Services for the Sylvania School district, where she pioneered the use of computerized catalogs and oversaw the digital transformation of school libraries.
Peggy considered her greatest accomplishment to be her family. She loved Jerry, her lifelong husband, and had fun with him throughout many adventures. She loved her six children and made every day an opportunity for learning. She marveled at the things her grandchildren and even great grandchildren were doing. She loved to travel, and did see a good part of the globe. She was a voracious reader and reliable source of good books. She was always friendly, and careful to tend the friendships she made. As a result she had a large group of friends and will be missed by many people.
Margaret was an associate member of the Sisters of St Francis since 2004, and a recipient of their St Clare of Assisi Award in 2016 at their centennial gala. She was a devout Catholic with a deep faith, having been a Member of Holy Rosary Cathedral as a child and then a member of St. Catherine of Siena parish while married to Gerald T. Rabideau. After her husband’s passing she then moved to Sylvania, Ohio and became a member of St. Joseph Parish Sylvania.
Our family would note a special thanks to the teams of Hospice of NW Ohio, Arista, nurse aides, Anna and Darlene, and Dr Nancy Stadler, MD, ProMedica Family Physicians. Their care to her was remarkable.
