Carol Campbell
June/1/1938 - December/18/2021

Carol Campbell age 83 of Lambertville, MI passed away Saturday December 18, 2021 at ProMedica Goerlich Center in Sylvania, Ohio. She was born on June 1, 1938 in Bowling Green, Ohio to Merrill and Marcella (Kammerer) McEwen. The 4th of 5 children, Carol grew up in a musical household - her father studied at Julliard and was Chair of the Music Dept at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). This must surely have been the root of her love of singing. We recall with fondness being greeted each morning with a song: “Good morning to you! Good morning to you! We’re all in our places…” And how do you entertain 5 children on a road trip? Start singing, of course!
Carol spent her college years at BGSU where she studied education. She was active on campus, holding leadership roles in the Association of Women Students and Christian Science Organization and participating in the Home Economics Club and Acappella Choir. She joined the Delta Gamma sorority as a freshman, eventually holding the position of 1st Vice President and serving as Senior Panhellenic Representative.
While living in the sorority house, Carol was introduced to her soulmate, Jack Campbell, by her sorority sister (and, gratefully, future sister-in-law), Nancy Campbell Gravius. Thus began the love affair! Dad has recounted many times how, while dating, he was in a rush to get mom back to campus before they locked the sorority house doors. Carol married Jack in Prout Chapel on the campus of Bowling Green State University on June 11, 1960, and they just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She went on to teach at Waite High School as part of the Home Economics staff, but then as her children came along, she opted to become a stay-at-home mother to a very busy household. Somehow, though, she found the time to stay connected to her beloved Delta Gamma sorority. Carol was also a member of the Junior League of Toledo.
Carol and Jack both grew up loving family time at “the lake”. The McEwen’s vacationed at Lake Ozonia in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, while the Campbell family enjoyed many happy summers at Devils Lake, Manitou, Michigan. As young married couples, we share fond memories of Carol and Jack, and Nancy and Bill (Gravius) ushering all the kids off to bed so they could enjoy an evening of cards and laughter at the Devils Lake cottage (yes, we could hear you!).
The simplest pleasures in life brought Carol great joy and she did not hesitate to share her genuine warmth with friend or stranger. Her infectious laugh brought a smile to all that were around her. Carol had an uncanny ability to find happiness in all that she did, whether that be at home with her family, little league games, music concerts, trips with their many friends, football tailgates and games (Go Falcons, Go Rockets, Go Buckeyes, Go Browns, Go Spartans, Go Bulldogs…you get the picture!). All that had the pleasure of knowing Carol knew she had a heart larger than life itself. Most of all, Carol enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ellen Burke and brother, Doug McEwen. Carol is survived and will be missed by her husband Jack, children, Laurie (Charles) Heid, Holly (Mark) Bristoll, Thomas (Jane) Campbell, Marcy (Richard) O’Loughin, and Michael (Angelina) Campbell, grandchildren Nathan, Alex, Kyle, Luke, Kevin, Keith, Conor, Amanda, Shane, Jacob, Seth and Lillian. And brothers Steve (Joan) McEwen and Mike (Onalee) McEwen, as well as many cherished Campbell and McEwen nieces and nephews and their families and friends.

The family has been assisted by the Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home.
Memorial services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made in Carol’s name to an organization of the donor’s choice, or Delta Gamma (bgsu.deltagamma.org) or the ProMedica Foundation (giving.promedica.org)
