Charles "Chuck" Frederick Charpie, Jr.
February/4/1929 - November/22/2021

Charles “Chuck” Frederick Charpie Junior age 92 of Cleveland, Ohio passed away November 22, 2021 at Autumwood Nursing & Rehab in Rittman, Ohio. Chuck was born February 4, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Charles Frederick and Blanche Elinor (Stewart) Charpie. A Devilbiss High School graduate he attended the University of Toledo 3 ½ years where he studied Engineering Physics until he was offered a job at Dana Corporation where he became the Advertising Manager for their Racing Division. His position allowed him to take his family to many Indianapolis 500 races and other Indy car events. He loved working on anything mechanical and was a talented machinist, welder, upholsterer, clock and watch maker and bicycle builder who would also turn one of a kind pen and pencil sets. He was a Genealogy and Civil War buff as well as a motorcycle aficionado. At one point he had a collection of over 60 motorcycles, (his favorites were Indian motorcycles). He bought his last motorcycle at age 77 and promptly drove to Virginia. In his younger years he was eager to race his motorcycles and even raced against some well-known Indy car drivers. Chuck also served his country as a Sargent in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was known for truly doing things his way.

Surviving are his beloved sons, Charles Frederick Charpie III (Jane Mary Tate), James Michael Charpie, (partner for life, Michael A. Lenzo), grandchildren, Melissa Marie (Jason) Myers, Charles Frederick Charpie IV, Lauren Ann (Jordan) Jackson, great-grandchildren, Cohen Bonino, Palmer Jackson, Isla Jackson and Comyna Jackson. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife Joyce Marie Kester (who he met while racing motorcycles), sisters Blanche Nehring, Betty Charpie and Marjorie Charpie and brothers, Richard Charpie and Kenneth Charpie.



Memorial Services
Chuck’s life celebration will be held Monday November 29, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd. Toledo, OH where the funeral service will be in the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Rev. Steve Swisher officiating. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.
