Carol Jean Penrod
August/13/1925 - July/25/2021

Carol Jean Penrod age 95 of Toledo and formerly of Ida, MI passed away Sunday July 25, 2021 at the Sunset House in Toledo. Carol was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 13, 1925 to Charles and Mae (Chaloupka) Urban. Carol graduated in 1943 from Garfield Heights (OH) high school where she was a cheerleader and the homecoming Queen. She married Richard Penrod, her high school sweetheart, on September 12, 1946. In the early 1950's she worked as a secretary and was a model at the Detroit Auto Show before Richard was transferred to Argentina for 2 years. Upon returning from Argentina, Carol and Richard built a home in Ida where they raised their family. Carol was a very successful realtor in Michigan for over 35 years working for Neal, Grogan and Gio Reality. Carol had an active social life. She played in Bedford and Sylvania bridge groups, and loved playing golf with friends, family and in the Bedford women's league. Carol also hunted, fished, danced, sang, cooked, gardened and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was passionate about dogs, horses, nature, wildlife and bird watching, and collected birdhouses for many years. Carol really enjoyed her time and activities with her kids and grandchildren, especially watching their music and sporting events. With her dear friend Don McGill she played bridge, gardened at the Sunset House, and watched movies, Cleveland Browns football and golf. Carol and her family were very grateful for the support and care from the caregivers, nurses, nursing aids and staff at the Sunset House and the Ashanti Hospice. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard and sister Justine Skala. Carol is survived by her children Bret (Luciane) Penrod and Jody (Brian) Defever, grandchildren Brienne Defever, Dakota (Stephanie) Defever, Connor Defever, Enzo Penrod, great grandchild Lilith Jean. Carol's family will be greeting friends at the Urbanski Funeral Home A Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd Toledo, Ohio on Thursday July 29, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday July 30, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the burial at Toledo Memorial Park. Carol's family will be greeting friends at the Urbanski Funeral Home A Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd Toledo, Ohio on Thursday July 29, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday July 30, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the burial at Toledo Memorial Park.
