Obituaries - In Loving Memory

Michael Thomas Shordt
November/25/1957 - June/20/2021

Michael Thomas Shordt, age 63, of Toledo, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after his two-year battle with cancer. He was born on November 25, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio to Clement R. and Evelyn H. Shordt. Mike graduated from Start High School in 1975 and began his career as a layout welder at Katy Steel shortly after high school. He then became the second hired employee of Tech Dynamics, Inc. where he worked for over 30 years, retiring at the end of 2019.
Mike enjoyed traveling to Black Lake with his family as a child. He also traveled to Colorado with friends after high school. Most recently, he enjoyed going to the cottage on Round Lake and working on many home improvement projects as well as his annual trips to Florida and occasional trips to the Outer Banks.
Mike married the love of his life in 1983 and they raised four beautiful daughters. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #3122 and the Northern Light-Sanford L. Collins-Calumet Lodge No. 40 F&AM. He enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling, playing cribbage, listening to music and reading many books, whether about Toledo history or books of useless trivia, baking fish at the K of C fish fries and taking long walks with his trusted friend, Duke.
Mike was an avid Toledo Walleye “Finatic”. He scoped the arena out for the perfect seat during their first season before settling on his season tickets. He so looked forward to the 2021-22 season after the last season of no games due to the pandemic.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Clement Richard Shordt, and his father-in-law, Gerald “Pops” Young. Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years, Denise (Young) Shordt, daughters, Samantha (Gary) Mitchell, Danielle (Jon Cochenour) Shordt, Kimberly (Jordan) Lutz and Michaela Shordt, grandchildren, Riley and Jacob Mitchell, Lyla Kralovic-Shordt, Liam and Landon Lutz and Rylee Cochenour, his mother, Evelyn Shordt, brother, Robert Shordt, and sister, Patricia (John) Intagliata, his mother-in-law Marie Young and numerous nieces and nephews.
