Obituaries - In Loving Memory

Dolores “De” J. Stockner
April/14/1935 - January/29/2019

Nothing meant more to De than God and family, so it was only fitting that she waited to hear the news that her sixth great-grandchild had arrived safely into the family she adored before completing her journey here on earth on January 29th and embracing the loving arms of her Lord.
De was born on April 14, 1935 to Sophie (Bromer) and Phil Kowalski. She attended St. Agnes grade school and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953. On November 5, 1955, she married the love of her life, Michael Stockner. They soon welcomed daughters Lynn and Kim and De was always very involved in their lives at St. Catherine’s. She began her career at JCPenney at Miracle Mile in 1968 before moving to the Franklin Park store. She retired in 1994 after 25 years of service.
Throughout De’s life she loved being active, especially playing cards and being involved at the Toledo Women’s Club, traveling with Mike, family weekends at Deep Lake, dining out with their “Eaters” group and cheering on her grandchildren at all of their activities. Always putting family first, “Nanny” played a huge role in their lives, never missing an opportunity to tell them she loved them and to “be careful”.
De moved to the Sunset House in May of 2014. During her years there, Mike exemplified the true meaning of love, dedication and commitment. Our family would like to give special thanks to the staff who have been her caregivers, support team and friends for truly loving her and for making every day of her life a happy one. For the last few months the Ashanti Hospice team also lovingly ensured that her final journey was peaceful and we are grateful for their support.
De was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie and Phil Kowalski, whom she was looking forward to seeing again. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael; daughters, Lynn (Chris) Jasin, Kim (Kevin) Smith; her grandchildren Erin (Joe) Bajas, Bri (Ben) Gelhaus, Brittany (Tony) Cerasi, Austin Jasin and Corey Smith; her great-grandchildren Madelyn and Lincoln Bajas, Brody and Zoey Cerasi, and Jacob and Shay Gelhaus. Her love and legacy will forever live on through them.
